Hinchingbrooke Lodge No 9282
Because of the continuing growth in the 1980’s in the Huntingdon area, a number of Freemasons felt that there was a need for a new Lodge to be formed at Huntingdon. Some eighteen years previously, Samuel Pepys Lodge had been formed and it became the sponsoring Lodge. Consequently some 22 brethren met under the Chairmanship of W Bro J S Simms, PJGD who was to become the first Master.
These 22 became the Founders of the Lodge and each contributed in some way to its’ successful formation. All the Past Present and future.
Hinchingbrooke Lodge was consecrated on the 16th July 1988 at Hinchingbrooke House on the towns outskirts by the then Provincial Grand Master R.W.Bro R S E Sandbach assisted by his deputy V.W.Bro H B Smith and assistant W.Bro D Manners. They were supported by more than 200 brethren from this and other provinces. The Lodge was particularly fortunate in the place of consecration as this was the former home of the Earl of Sandwich whose family name we proudly bear.
